This Irish jig was very popular in colonial America and was used as the basis for Thomas Jefferson's campaign song, "Jefferson & Liberty." As Jefferson was himself an accomplished fiddler, it seems reasonable to assume that he probably played this tune.

  • Excellent! Enjoyed that!! I decided a few weeks ago to learn this tune after finding out about its role in the 1800 presidential campaign. How did you decide on the tempo? Or rather do you have information on how it was played in the campaign -- I was think they might have gone for a slower more stately speed? Just wondering.
