in the uk it is rare to get storms like this however in august 1997 i saw the worst storm in my life which was freak due to the storm getting trapped in a valley called the chiltern hills around luton, bedfordshire, it started at around 2330hrs and continued through to 0715, it was and overhead and i could not separate the lightning from the thunder and many places were struck, i was 15 at the time and im sure i will never see anything like that again. a hot front from france trapped the storm
