Gene Roddenberry had his two girlfriends as cast members on Star Trek .Uhura (his black girl friend ) and Nurse Chapel (his white girlfriend ) . He married the nurse , the black one was so jealous she wanted to leave the show . MLK talked her out of leaving to keep the positive black female role model in the public eye .All famous trek lore now.
