Charles "Charlie" Ryan (December 19, 1915, Graceville, Minnesota February 16, 2008, Spokane, Washington) was an American singer and songwriter, best known for co-writing and first recording the rockabilly hit single "Hot Rod Lincoln".

Ryan grew up in Polson, Montana and moved to Spokane in 1943. He served in the United States Army during World War II. After the war, he worked as a musician and songwriter, touring with artists such as Jim Reeves and Johnny Horton. In 1955, he and W. S. Stevenson wrote "Hot Rod Lincoln", and Ryan recorded the first version of the song (as "Charlie Ryan and the Livingston Brothers"). Ryan released a remake in 1959 as "Charlie Ryan and The Timberline Riders"; the song was later covered by Johnny Bond (1960) and Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen (1972), among others.

  • It's very depressing when you only own a Windstar and this comes on the radio.

  • @Elderhamm I'll bet! I remember when I was a kid my dad brought home a new car. OMG! It was a 4door! I was so embarrassed. I swore it was nothing but 2 doors for me for the rest of my life! LOL

  • @John1948TwoC Thats when you say screw it and find a nice 58 buick 2 door hardtop Black and White then you will be the one depressing everyone else ;) cheers

  • @308RoadReady Actually my first car was a 1960 Ford Fairlane. It was a 2 dr and plane as could be. It belonged to my older sister and she blew up the 6 cylinder engine so it was sitting in my dad's driveway because he bought her a replacement. I asked him if I could have it if I would fix it. Sure. I got a used V8 from the junk yard and put it in with some help from my big brother. It lasted for a year or two. I got rid of it for a 63 chevy belair.

  • I got a '93 mercury tracer lts. It has the 1.8 dohc 4 cylinder and a 5 speed. Most people underestimate it, and one day me and my friend was going down the interstate, we was going about 90 and a cadillac xlr passed us. So I dropped it down to 4th and we passed that cadillac like it was nothing and it couldnt keep up. I topped out at 140 mph even though it reads 120

  • First car I bought cost 75 bucks, a 1947 Ford Woody... years later sold it for $50.00 to a guy that wanted the flat head engine only to pressure spary roof tops in Florida. It was the early 1960's for my first car.

  • this takes me back sooo far...still just as good now as it always was

  • @Elderhamm On the other hand, if your Cavalier happens to have a Quad 4 dual overhead cam, it ain't all bad...

  • I can remember this song from when I was a kid. Of since course my old man drove a Studebaker Scotsman station wagon the very idea of fast cars of any kind was more of a fantasy than the song!

  • @John1948TwoC Bet ya still had that ol Fairlane. The 60 Fairlanes dont have a large market compaired to other classics. Im sure if ya wanted you could find a nice one for the same price as a newer used car. I spent my entire life owning and restoring classic and vintage cars (mostly from the post war years 45-63) and the one thing you learn quick is that desirability makes a big difference on value. Cheers

  • @John1948TwoC I know the feeling... 5 days a week I drive a 10 year old Buick Park Avenue. It's a big boring car, but it's cheap and practical, but the other two days a week I drive a hot rod model A... original drivetrain, just a winfield cylinder head on it and dual zenith 97's and a set of headers...

  • @Elderhamm its ok dude i got a escort station wagon. but she has over sized valves to make the power band for low end torq last just a little longer. she is still slow but hey it beats walkin
