I loved the reading and it seems you read with passionate interest (it shows). I'm still in the middle (too many holiday distractions). I have browsed through Ellison's Essays and those are also outstanding. Thanks for posting, it's just an important (understated) American novel.

I'd heard about it, mind you, (I'm fifty-one) but had not had it in my hands.
