I play a movement from one of Prokofiev's masterful sonatas. My time in learning it has been greatly rushed because I won't be able to play piano for another two years, so I wanted to get it recorded before then. I'll master it later in my life. If you watch carefully, you can see my broken fourth finger in the right hand were my tendons no longer connect. Please don't make any comments on my annoying genetic tongue habit, I'm working on getting rid of it. This happens to be one of my favorite pieces for piano, and the 7/8 meter just adds to it! I won't be able to manage any of my videos until August 2009, so all comments will be reviewed by me and posted then. I will post any comment except for spam & vulgarity, so please comment!

  • Where'd you go on your mission? Sounds nice.

  • Oregon.

  • Hey, This is a good effort and shows how well this works at a slower tempo - it does not need to be played at a breakneck speed to work. I would only make two suggestions - at the slower pace, the EVENNESS of the tempo is critical (Solokov has that) and watch the 7/8 - you are playing this as 14/8 - and at the slower tempo there is a real opportunity to catch the irregular rhythm (most pianists miss that in this piece) and that, combined with an even tempo, can result in a stunning rendition.

  • I believe that is because within two measures of 7/8 the piece requires you to accent some notes, making it sound like two measures are one, creating the 14/8 effect. I'll work on it though.

  • Who recorded?

  • My father did. Hey I just caught one of your comments at 12 seconds lol.

  • Don't worry so much about your tongue habit. If it distracts you from playing, then I guess you should work on getting rid of it, but if it doesn't, don't worry about it. If the audience is too preoccupied with you instead of the music, they have problems.

    Excellent playing btw.

  • I agree with other commenters that the tempo needs to be increased very little, if at all. When Horowitz played this it was electrifying, but more because of his incredible tonal control and rhythmic effects, less from speed.

    A very satisfying rendition!

  • Dude, playing this piece with a broken finger licenses you to do whatever the hell you want with your tongue. Bravo!

  • OY VEY MARIA

  • This was orgasming!

  • wow impressive :)

  • Votre tempo et votre articulation sont très intéressants et on découvre un Prokofiev enfin joué comme un néo classique. J'ai beaucoup aimé.

  • Great Job! I am learning this too. Hey I am studying piano in Weber State...(if you know where that is.) I have friends in the piano program in BYU! I wonder if you know them
