Waht was consistan with our founders was that we all work for a living and take care of ourselves. Why don't they promote Americans becoming financially independent and quit relying on the Government. Americans should quit living on credit, get out of debt, and live a healthy lifestyle. Then we wouldn't need communist healthcare. And if we do we could pay for it ourselves. Simple supply and demand, live healthy and take away the demand prices drop.

Securing the Blessing of Liberty would mean that certain powers he grants himself in the patriot act, such as the suspension of habeas corpus and the first, fourth and fifth amendments wouldn't be there... so yea, the patriot act minus all the parts that are unconstitutional... so essentially anything after "Resolved that..." would be completely erased, were we to actually follow the consitution.

I would support a constitutional Amendment for h.r. 676. Lots of great Amendments were started in the House, but I think we should vote in the states and pass them statewide first... they'd be hard pressed to stop a national movement.

I agree. The Congress derives its enumerated authority from Article 1, Section 8 and the President derives his enumerated authority from Article II, Section 2. Neither derives their authority from the preamble; this proves my point. Nowhere in Article I, Section 8 or Article II, Section 2 is the Congress or President authorized to institute a national or universal health care plan. Consequently, any such program would require a constitutional amendment under Article V.

WhiteBuffalo74, the flaw in your argument has to do with the enumeration of powers. The President can't invoke powers that are not enumerated unless they are specific and inherent to enumerated powers. Declaring war is specific to Congress, not the President.

Wow, I've been saying for years that the preamble sets out the six goals of government! The preamble makes it clear that defense is only 1/6 of the purposes of government, not the be-all and end-all as Republicans and Libertarians would have you believe.

A Compliment, Part 1: Imagine my surprise upon receiving a personal message from you regarding the constitutionality of universal health care. While it is obvious from my question that I am an originalist and that puts me at odds with your political ideology, I must state first that I have respect for you as an individual. Your actions suggest great sincerity on behalf of the People and you truly believe that your ideology can bring the salvation many of our less fortunate hope for.

A Compliment, Part 2: Your position on federal matters is incredibly consistent; you honestly represent your principles; and, you are always prepared to address a wide variety of topics with great detail. Perhaps most importantly, I sense that you are not interested in the power that your title brings. Conversely, many of the other candidates are unlearned about the subject matter, over-coached, interested only in their personal power and the gamesmanship required to secure it.
