The North Tonawanda[circa 1900's] was the organ used at the Lincoln park carousel until it burned down along with the wurlitzer 165. It was brought to the Griffith Park carousel and played for 5 decades until the bellows blew out in the 60's, to this day, the roll it played is still on the role frame at the exact same part of a song it was when the organ stoped,so you can imagine the old girl's air tubes and pipes are filled with lots of dust.

Yes, and there used to be 3. The Wurlitzer 105 that was off to one side has been sold to a private collector, and is being restored. The North Tonawanda 188 in the middle is set up to play Wurlitzer 150 rolls, but hasn't played in years. The Stinson is the "favorite" organ. If I had the money and the owner was willing to sell, I'd love to rally the North Tonawanda since they are great organs.

Very nice video! The Stinson model 87 band organ was built in 1987 custom for this carousel. Mr. Stinson is still in business and still builds new band organs and restores old ones. You can find his website through Google. This organ is now sounding great thanks to a tune-up by California restorer Josh Rapier. It wasn't 100% for a while there due to continuous use and the high cost of airfare from Ohio to Los Angeles!

FYI, the march playing on the Stinson band organ (Wurlitzer 165 rolls) is "Liberty Bell" by John Philip Sousa. It is well-known as the theme for "Monty Python's Flying Circus."

I think it is in the process of restoration right now, but they started with the mechanism inside, not the horses. It is going to cost nearly a half-million dollars. Also, this was built in the 1920s and moved to Griffith Park in 1937, not 1955.

I wonder how long has it been since this Carousel was restored ? Because the way those horses look they need some freshen up and they new tails too .
