While driving to New Haven Conn. for the first previews of South Pacific, Pinza was so unsure of himself in this musical, having just retired from the opera stage, he suddenly told his wife, he wanted to back out of this play and let the understudy do it. She said to him if it's the audience your afraid of, why not let them decide. He saw the logic of it, and the rest is history; he was the biggest hit of the show!

The one version that all other interpretations will be measured against- FOREVER!

Pinza was marvelous. I first heard South Pacific in my parent's living room, on the record player, many years ago. Thanks for giving us a chance to hear him again.
