Federal Signal TwinSonic Model 12X Lightbar

Federal Signal TwinSonic 12X police lightbar, back to it's original condition, same lightbar as in "A Very Twinsonic Christmas". I love these old lightbars, particularly this model... but as we became more desensitized by sensory overload, vehicle equipment had to become brighter and louder in order to be noticed. I replaced the stock 30 watt GE4416 35,000CP lamps with 37.5 watt GE H7600 Halogen 60,000 CP signal lamps. That's 25,000 more candlepower for only 7.5 watts additional draw per bulb, adding only about 2.5Amps to the bar's total draw. The optional brighter bulb for this bar at time of manufacture was the GE4464 bulb, a 60 watt bulb that (if memory serves) also produced 60,000 CP. That bulb nearly doubled the bar's total amp draw. Since the 4464 bulb is no longer made, I'm keeping the few I still have in a drawer.

I do too, it's a timeless classic. When our dept. switched to StreetHawks, I kept with the older cars with the TwinSonics until the end. :)

I love how the mirrors are split for front and back, but I have seen too many a squad car with dead batteries. Do not turn off the motor with these units

My first light bar was a 12 x twin.......I turned the mirrors around to face front tho....so slow i replaced it asap..not good light bar in cold winter areas

I recall all too well when these lightbars first came into service... It amazes me how many different units are being restored now and I'm certainly glad I'm not the only one with such a fascination! :)
