Hello and welcome to a short demonstration video about the new functionality in the PRO-enabled nworks Management Pack for VMware. My name is Alec King, I'm a senior product manager at Veeam, and Im here to tell you about the new features that we are introducing with the new version of the nworks MP for VMware.
First, lets review what makes the nworks MP for VMware the #1 solution for monitoring VMware virtual infrastructure in System Center Operations Manager.
•The nworks MP fully integrates with Operations Manager, allowing you to get a unified view of your physical servers, virtual servers and the applications running there - and use System Center Operations Manager as your single management interface. With this full integration the nworks MP provides, you minimize costs for additional training, avoid the expense of buying, deploying, integrating, and maintaining another monitoring framework and agents, and protect your investments in Microsoft System Center Operations Manager.
•The nworks MP is agentless technology it does not require any agents running on ESX hosts or virtual machines. We use the VMware VI API, which makes our MP a feature-rich, secure, scalable and future-proof solution. The nworks MP was developed in collaboration with VMware and Microsoft, and was one of the very first products certified as a VMware Ready. It is already used by more than 500 enterprise customers worldwide.
•The nworks MP provides Enterprise-class scalability and performance. It includes components for centralized configuration, load balancing and high availability, ensuring continuous monitoring of your business-critical VMware systems.
•With the new version of the nworks MP weve introduced many improvements and new features, giving you even more flexibility, such as High availability failover groups, allowing complete drag-and-drop control over our fault-tolerant monitoring in your global datacenters - but today I would like to focus on our new PRO Pack functionality which really closes the loop for VMware management in Microsoft System Center.
•The nworks MP provides the detailed and granular monitoring data in Ops Mgr and the nworks PRO Pack in Virtual Machine Manager leverages that data, and allows automated actions to fix performance and configuration problems.
The PRO functionality in Virtual Machine Manager allows that automated problem resolution and the nworks PRO Pack enhances that functionality and really brings VMware to the System Center party. Lets see how it works.
Ive connected Virtual Machine Manager to my VMware virtual center so I can see all the VMware hosts and virtual machines there. And I can perform administration actions lets power on this virtual machine.
However, that VM has a high memory allocation, and is on a host which is already heavily loaded. So Ive just increased the memoryPressure on that host significantly . memoryPressure is one of those metrics unique to nworks, and it includes factors such as memory allocations, overheads, and page-sharing.
And now with the nworks PRO Pack you can take automated responses to that metric. The nworks PRO Pack has now fired a PRO Tip into virtual machine manager to migrate that virtual machine to another less-loaded host in the cluster. These PRO Tips can be manually implemented, as Im showing you here- or they can be fully automatic responses, keeping your VMware environment optimally tuned.
You can see here how the PRO Tip automation is calling functions in VMware Virtual Center, migrating that VM. Our PRO tip uses the detailed nworks metrics from Operations Manager, combined with the Intelligent Placement feature of VMM, to choose the virtual machine to migrate and the optimum host to place it on. We dynamically build a script in Windows PowerShell, and call VMware VMotion to perform the migration. And here in Ops Mgr, you see the result . We power on the VM here, causing memoryPressure to climb on host 1, the red line. The nworks PRO Tip automatically migrated that VM to host 2 and balanced the resource load within the cluster.
The nworks PRO Pack includes PRO Tips on memory swap file I/O for the host, memory Pressure as you saw just now and disk IOPS for each host storage connection. We can call a storage migration for VMs to optimize disk traffic across available datastores.
Thats how nworks complements and completes the management of VMware in System Center monitoring in Operations Manager, automation and optimization in Virtual Machine Manager, with the nworks PRO-enabled Management Packs for VMware from Veeam Software.
