Why do English taxes pay for free university education and care for the elderly in Scotland but not in England.

I might have added that Scotland's cheap university education is available to all EU citizens EXCEPT the English. I'm not sure how this falls info Gordon Brown's promise to bring greater fairness to society.

Take the London Olympics - cost £9bn. On a pro rata basis that could fund free tuition fees for English students for 8 years. It would provide Free Personal Care for English pensioners for 9 years. It would provide free prescriptions for English patients for about 20 years.

But no. It funds the Olympics. Scotland isn't getting the Olympics (although we will be billed for them) and we won't be getting any of the benefits. England will. Don't blame us if we choose to spend our money more wisely.

The simplest answer to the question is this: Scotland has got what it voted for; England has got what it voted for.

England votes conservatives en masse, and is then surprised that education, the poor, and the old are under-funded... It truly beggars belief.
