  • What happens during the severe Florida weather? Lightning, tornados, hurricanes? Are the chimps kept in a protective enclosure? And do they get scarred during these weather events?

  • Each island connects to a night house where the chimps can come and go, to either sleep in or seek shelter from the weather. They are made of thick reinforced concrete to protect the chimps and keep them secure. Since evacuating is not an option, the sanctuary is built to withstand the heavy winds, rain and flooding that comes with storms. The chimps don't seem to mind the weather at all and usually find a nice cozy place to keep dry.

The routine for the staff and chimps carries on as usual.

  • Do the rescued chimps breed at the sanctuary? Or are they sterilized to prevent further breeding?

  • great work guys.

    one question:

why are there so few trees on the island?

    I thought chimps love trees.

  • Please contact your state representative, help the rest of the Chimpanzees get out of research and into sanctuaries. It is our tax dollars that is being used for the research that is being done on them.

  • I love watching the videos. You are such wonderful people giving a second chance to the chimps for a life that they so richly deserve. I know that we can't undo the past but only make their future lives better.

  • Save the chimps is WONDERFUL!! Great job!!!!!!!

  • Thank you so much!! This is a good thing...

  • May 2009 be a great year for all of you, especially your most important residents, the chimpanzees. Blessings!
