http://www.ntv.co.ke August 1, marks twenty-seven years since the abortive coup of 1982. That is the day a group of soldiers attempted to forcefully take over the reins of power in Kenya, leading to fighting and looting on the streets of Nairobi.
I was staying at the Hotel Intercontinental in downtown Nairobi. I remember the VOK report stating that Pres Daniel Arap Moi and his regime had been overthrown. Then came the curfew announcement. I was young and stupid; so were my friends. 4 of us went out after curfew anyway. Met at a bar for the last time, to say our goodbyes (we were all going back to the U.S.), and down some Tusker Lager. Soldiers stopped us afterwards. We bribed our way out of it. They took our cash and watches. Good times.
this is some very shitty journalism (if it can even be called that) n indicative of the media crisis in Kenya. Additionally, comments by folk like 'freegastanker1' just expose sheer ignorance of this historic event! It is always a great disservice to democracy to pose grossly uninformed comments as fact. Basic research would enlighten u to the FACT that without the abortive coup Kenya would not be enjoying the little democratic space we have! Enlighten urself b4 embarassing urself again!
that's your opinion but u must remember many people lost their jobs as well as their lifes because of greed for power. What you say about Raila, I'm not buying it. He can go to hell and die there!

Sand coon, stuck on kenyan camps. U must be lazier than all ur lazy wariahe sand coon apes to be stuck here. They went to kill their bor apes. U r lazy. Go milk ur camel of sperm, coon.
@ freegastanker rather than just yapping, get your facts str8! the coup opened doors for the little democracy we have in the form of multiparty politics. If it wasnt for that, we would be under one party and moi would still be president. i respect raila for their constant fight with the moi regime led to the loosening of the choke hold our politicians have on power. we might not be the best but at least we are not the worst!

Quite an era, but this one is just as terrorizing if not more, if you like to tell the truth on things.
