A short story about a 31 year wait for a return to dive in Blue Pool following a visit there in 1979 with Hartford Sub Aqua Club. Blue Pool is just off the Horseshoe Pass in Llangollen Wales. I visted when I was 12 and snorkelled around while the club divers took the plunge. Now, 31 years later, I get the chance to dive it myself!

  • Hi...do you have to speak to anyone to dive there or is it free access. Thanks

    Al

  • @TheBigusAlus It is free access although you have to hike for 500 meters or so to get to it from the nearest place to park.

  • How deep was it, people say its bottomless :P

  • @globe11123 Blue pool is only about 12 meters deep now, the rockslides over the years have made it shallower. It's definitely not bottomless - I've been to the bottom and seen it :)

  • @globe11123 It is no deeper than 15 meters.. We found the bottom quite quickly :)

  • Nice video :) i like how there are lots of cars been dumped in the Blue Pool. I never knew that :)

  • @STSHolidays Thanks for the comment, there is a vert big pile of cars just 10 meters off the shore, although you can't see then from the surface you only need to dive down about 2 meters and you can see them quite easily.

  • I enjoyed it. We arrived at 10am, but it took us 2 hrs to find it and find the best place to park. We found that at the bottom corner of the quarry where they had been grading out material, you could get in helped by where motorcyclists had been running. It was however an uphill walk. There were 4 of us so we took some of the equipment to share I.e. Only 2 cylinders. Because we were late we only had 1 dive each. It was different but there is not a lot to see. If I went again I would be able to

  • @DaveDiver1 - Hi Dave, To answer your question: I drove across the field in front of the Ponderosa Cafe (dodging the ruts) and parked at the base of the quarry workings which left a half mile trek to the pool. We did look at the side road you mention but there were two lots of fences to cross so opted for the walk instead. We lugged our gear by hand. Suits and Tanks/BCDs over the shoulder (as in the video) and all the other gear in one large bag we carried between us. How was your dive? Kevin

  • Hi KJP. Having seen your video we decided to take a trip there last weekend. We tried to figure out where you parked but the track seemed very rutted at the moment. We found an alternative location by taking the track down the side of the quarry. I think it was a little nearer but took 2 trips uphill to get our kit up there. How did you transport your kit from your parking area? And how difficult was it.
