Bass Fishing On A Portabote

Fishing With Dad March 2009:

It was time to get the PORTABOTE out for the 2009 maiden voyage. And sure enough, my dad and I were able to capitalize. The bass fishing was great in 2 small ponds. We caught a bunch and took a few home to stock in my dads pond. They werent huge bass, but the action was real good. We landed about a dozen and lost just as much.

Portabote:

This boat just keeps performing. Who needs a porta-dolly when you have a Toyota Tacoma. Needless to say, I tend to stay away from busy boat ramps. My portabotes primary objective is to fish water that cant be reached by other power boats. I just pulled my boat from pond to pond to save time and effort. IT WORKED!!!

Porta-Livewell:

Just get a good sized cooler, an aerator, a deep cycle battery, and a portable bilge pump...and POOF, you have a portable and effective livewell with aeration and recirculation. Use the bilge to pump out the old water, and then use it to add new water. I do that about every hour or so. It really helps keep fish alive. The aeration is the key component though. The fish stayed vigorous throughout the day, and survived the transplant into my dads pond quite nicely.

Deep Cycle Battery:

I was able to run my fish finder, my electric motor, and my aerator for 5 hours. I was pulling 12.6 volts at the beginning of the day. At the end of the day, I was pulling 12.1 volts. Basically, I had a crap load of battery left!!! With this set-up, I can get a full 8-10 hours of heavy use from one battery.

How sturdy are the bench's? Can you stand on them and have them be ok? I want to get this for bass fishing too but I like to stand up higher. I normally stand on the benches in a aluminum. Do you think It'll take a custom casting deck very well? How does it ride compared to a Aluminum boat of the the same style?

it is better than a comparable aluminum jon by far!!! my benches are custom made so i can stand on them when i bowfish. the benches withstand 230 pounds of pure love. i made a custom casting deck on mine. she works great. unfortunately, you will have to make the mods since the stock benches are crap.

nice video, seems like a good of fishing to me! hows that boat as far as durability? im talking possible tree stumps, low water, things like that.

boat is durable. i beat the hell out of mine. i have hit ribar, trees, stumps, rocks, and etc. i drag it over rip-rap.

i like mine and after 10 years of hard use, she is still going strong.

Wow, I really enjoyed your video...you guys were definitely slaying bass that day...the portabote looks really cool and Im thinking about buying one...just one question though...does it take on any water from the front bow, that quad fold area just looks a little different..thanks a lot

the portabote is not a dry boat in my opinion. she takes water from the front if you are in any chop. also, water easily passes over the gunwales in chop as well. i always have a hand bilge pump available.

I just wanted to say because of this video I actually bought a 10ft portaboat. Amazing purchase and is extremely portable. Now I know how it got its name! Great video!

the boat handles choppy water just fine. i duck hunt in lake superior in november with mine.
