hahaha our cat just shakes the door if she wants to come in......even at 3 in the damn morning. waking up the whole house.

Very good. The cat is brilliant, but opening the door as reward after a good knock rather than sitting there laughingand taunting him to do it again and again would have been better. As you saw, the cat got discouraged. If he doesn't know his actions get the door opened he will stop doing it.
