It flew past because?
-The RR engine (where it is made) is near by in a place called Derby.

What happened after?
-The plane flew over the factory (low) and headed to Shannon in Ireland to get fuel and then went to her home in Seattle.

Okay. RWY 27 is the side near the Motorway or in other words that runway is 270deg

09 is 90 deg and is near the aeropark side and DHL terminal.

Planes are taking off from runway 09 that day however 27 which is used mostly.

@minitrundle i know they were showing off also but could be testing a Missed Approach also seeing how fast engines can throttle up seeing if the computer goes from landing mode to a take off mode

@ikolkyo967 Correction, it was on its way back to Everett , Washington but done a missed approach at East Midlands as a way of saying thank you and to show off their engines to the Rolls Royce workers who built them.
