The Dance is "Fantasy" choreographed by Louis van Hattem & Giovanni Coenmans. The music is 'Favorite Fantasy' by Jon Secada (pitch down to 118BPM). The dance was the Advanced level "Cuban" dance, a Cha-Cha, at the 2011 UCWDC World Championships of Country Western Dance in Nashville, TN. Without exception this is the HARDEST line dance I have ever learned. The combination of the choreography and the fast music definitely challenged me. I tried it to a slower cha-cha and it becomes a much easier dance. For the first time since I started dancing I *had* to have some degree of technique, and the dance really demands far more than "some degree". It demands a HIGH degree of technique to do it well. The song used in competition before being slowed down is 132 BPM. When you pitch it down to 118, the top of the UC competition BPM range, you loose some of the musical accents that make it sound like a "cha cha" which to me makes the dance even harder because you have to really really REALLY focus on the music to stay on time. Whew! It is now my personal challenge to improve my latin technique to the point where I can nail this dance! I competed in two age divisions: Crystal and Diamond. This is the Crystal heat; In Crystal, I placed 2nd in every dance and I placed 2nd Overall. In Diamond, I placed 2nd overall but with a mix of placements in individual dances: 1st in Anita's Waltz and Sentimental; 2nd in El Samba de M, and 3rd in Fantasy and Americano. This was my first year in Advanced so I was very pleased with the results.
Gjob! it really looked hard. and for the record, you did way better than the other two guys :D.
