How can a few ounces of metal cost $50. Is there something wrong with making them out of plastic to bring the price down?

While there is no doubt that prices of these figures are inflated. There is more cost to them then just the metal of the figures. Designers have to be paid to sculpt the masters. Molds have to be made for each of the masters and the masters can only be used so many times before new masters have to be sculpted.
As for making them out of plastic...WARMACHINE used to have the slogan "Play like you got a pair or put down the metal and go play with something made of plastic"
