Goin crazy with the differential thrust!
This beast comes in at just over 1.5kg, mainly due to the wings being sheeted with carbon-fibre - After losing my last EZ* to wing failure during a steep dive while teaching my dad how to fly, I may have overcompensated a little...... XD
Just made the maiden flight this morning - it is INCREDIBLE!! Flies absolutely beautifully! Needed no trim changes or CG shifts at all, and the glide was still very nice. It obviously has a higher stall speed due to all the extra weight but even still, it will cruise happilly at probably about 1.5 times that of a stock easystar.
- The only bad habit I have found so far is that it now has a deadly tip-stall tendency, and it drops a wing every single time during any kind of stall. A couple of practice stalls even started to develop into a proper spin but the large rudder surface and differential thrust means it isn't hard to recover. While this tip-stalling is dangerous, it only occurs after the aircraft stalls so all you have to do is make sure you dont wash off too much airspeed while low to the ground during landings...........but this is common to any aircraft really.
Power system:
2 x E-flite Park 480 outrunners on the wings
2 x 20amp ESC (cheap hobbyking ones...)
Both ESCs connected in parrallel to 1 x 3S 2200mAh lipo - gives flight times of around 20 mins
Flight video to come soon!!
...well those cheap ESCs that were obviously too small for those motors ultimately led to a crash when one shut down on takeoff, causing a spin and snapping the nose and tail off the fuselage. Very annoying considering I didn't cheap out anywhere else on the plane... oh well, lesson learnt the hard way.
