  • the 1440 part probably threw some people off because most people dont realize that there are 1440 min in a day. remember that not everyone is familiar with converting units. I really like the white board approach but I would suggest writing down units so no one gets lost. Great video! again this is definitely my favorite channel

  • @trenttyre Thanks! I will explain the 1440 in Pt2. Nice to have another engineer keeping me straight!

  • I had a family member in Indiana who built one of these out of an old drive shaft and an engine valve. It pumped water from his spring up to the cistern beside his house. It only delivered about 1/2 gallon an hour, but it met all their household needs AND allowed them to "soak" the garden when everyone else's garden was burning up in the summer. Great post, thank you! :)

  • @dougdobbs That's great! There are so many ways to build a ram and using one to pump from a spring is the best of both worlds. Pumping Potable water without electricity!

  • If the storage tank gets full, will that stop the ram? If so, do you have to do anything to restart it? Thanks for your time.

  • @SmutFi No the ram won't stop and you will have to have a place for overflow or return it to the source. That is what I do after my 1600 gal tank is full. Starting and stopping the ram is no big deal either. Take care!

  • great vid, ty. Im tossing over a grayh2o garden feeding system. I figured to run the washer/sinks to a DIY biofilter(clean up a bit) t would tap the biofilter container at the top(>15ft of fall/ direct feed from h2o lines) feed into the ram and out to pvc and spagetti line feeding the garden. U have your setup gravity feeding your needs... bottom line, what do u think of my setup, how well do u feel it'll perform, and may i see your setup? TY

  • @engineer775 -. If I create a dam at the source at which is 4ft (like a dam) and have the drive pipe descend to a total of 5ft, will this solve the issue of not enough fall and having to long of a drive pipe? It is late and I am tired but wont this solve my issue of not enough fall and avoid the need for a stand pipe?

  • good how to videos. but, two questions. you never covered how to adjust the pump 1. How do you do that? 2. I am putting a pump on the runoff tube from my spring water holding tank. It is a very good spring with a strong runoff flow. if i put this style of pump on I believe I run the risk of the it shutting down the runoff and having my tank overfill. Will the water continuously drain if the pump isnt going?

  • I thought 6 x 15 was 90. ;-}

    Also writing units next to numbers is helpful.

    Thanks for all you do for this community. We love you man.

  • can it pump back to its water source, if so you can create free energy, simply stick.. lets say 3 phase brushless hub with a pelton wheel for the water to turn.

  • I have a little design using the ram pump to pump water BACK into a top resevoir, which its falling from the top resevoir running thro a pipe turning a hydroelectric motor then falling into the bottom resevoir then falling to the ram pump and around the cycle again. does this sound possible, recon_2ndforce@yahoo.com

  • do you think you could rig up a small version to work with hydroponics or aquaponics?

  • great explanation of hydraulic ram pumps altogether many thanks. Can you tell me how many metres will the pump be capable pumping water up hill per meter of fall please explain sincere thanks my email address is jimkavangh@yahoo.co.uk

  • @lking88h you mean how to do it? he's got videos up showing how they do it.

  • anyone else say "poor fish" when he explained that one got sucked in and got extruded?lol
