I am a wildlife rehabilitator. This is a juvenile ruby throated hummingbird drinking a "gnat & sugar smoothie" out of a test tube. You can see it stick out its tongue at the 12 second mark and start feeding at the 49 second mark. Hummingbirds CANNOT live on sugar water alone. The birds in the wild eat hundreds of insects to supplement the nectar they drink. This hummingbird is not a pet and will be released back into the wild as an adult.

  • did the bird recover??

  • The rehabber he is staying with tells me that he is missing some primary feathers from a wing and that they will grow back. He should be fine.
