This movie is just so gut wrenching... It's so raw, real, emotional, If you haven't watched it already, do so.

If they get snubbed by the oscars I will be so disappointed, not that the awards necessarily matter, I just think they deserve recognition for this!

There's no one way to view things, I watched this with 5 other people and our opinions differed so much. It was his fault, it was her fault...

Me, I landed right in the middle, I could see it from both sides. I would love to hear your thoughts, if you've watched. I'm not biased.

As far as who was at fault, I think it's both like you. He obviously didn't fall out of love with her as she did, but I think he sort of fell into an ugly rut of life. And she wanted more. It's sad, cause they did rush into marriage too quickly cause of Frankie and maybe they would've learned their differences if they waited. Gosh, so sad though...such a heartwrenching movie to watch!

@7KellProductions thanks so much! yeah, she felt like it was all gone, but when she helped him look for his ring and actually gave into the hug it was kind of hopeful, maybe not to be together but to be friends, kind of like they should have in the beginning. It def. bothered me that he was willing to sacrifice her happiness to keep living like they were. and it seemed he only wanted to talk when he thought he could turn it around to have the upper hand. They both had communication problems.

it was amazing to see how his character stepped up to raise a child that was not even his, all out of the love he had for her. you would think that would have made her love him all the more for the rest of their lives. just goes to show you,despite a man's efforts some people can never make a conscious choice to love someone if they are not happy. it was an amazing set of performances. this is real life, not some romanticized version of it...

@thepippinflippin whhaatttt? I disagree, he was exactly who he was when they got together, he didn't change. He took her in and was willing to marry her even though she got involved with him right after a previous sexual relationship and he was willing to take care of frankie without ever holding it over her head. I think the situation is on her completely :/

Blue Valentine is such a twisted, passionately sad movie and you totally made it justice. The subtly light colouring, the sad and vivid song, the incredibly wonderful way you edited those stunning scenes, their performances.... everything you've chosen, every single second of it was MAGICAL and PERFECT <3 Loved it SO much ;)

I agree that both parties contributed to the breakup in the movie, but personally, I never found her that appealing even when she was younger. Her looks were fine, but she seemed so miserable and arrogant. Also slutty (she slept with ~25 guys before him; the average is 5-8), but then he may not have known that.
