Blue Angels Solo Cockpit Video-OppMRT/Tuckaway Cross

http://blueangelteam.com This is the Opposing Minimum Radius Turn; 6.5 g turn with a cross at about 50 ft. of separation; followed by a maneuver no longer allowed by the FAA; The Tuckaway Cross; the solos approach the crowd head on and then roll 270 degrees away from each other and then pull into each other for a "hit" effect. The engines on the the lead solo aircraft would surge from the hit as the nose to tail on this maneuver was only five to ten feet. I can tell you from first hand experience that I did not black out in that maneuver. I was fortunate enough that I did not black out or GLOC the two years I was flying on the Team. Unfortunately that's what 7.5 g's does to your face and body.

The Tuckaway Cross was removed from the demonstration because it was considered "energy directed at the crowd" and the FAA does not want to have any aircraft have an accident within the confines of the crowd. The FAA is the approving authority for the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds demonstrations as well as the individual service Admiral and General who are over the team in the chain of command. Ghost, the Team no longer does the Tuckaway Cross pointed at the crowd head on. The solos still fly the Opposing Minimum Radius turn but they do the cross pointed away from the crowd in front. I was the Lead solo the year the FAA started discussing this maneuver being removed from the demo.
