What makes sting truly underrated is that he played this stuff while singing.

Great Job. You're right Sting is one of the most underated bassis especially considering he sang at the same time.I do that,it's tough. If you listen this Bass line is not right on with his Vox, meaning he must Seperate the two in his mind!

In looking at some of the live videos of the Police and Sting on here, I'm not sure that Sting is playing the 16th notes during the verse. When he sings, I think he's playing quarter notes, but in the verse sections when there isn't a vocal line over the 16th note section, he plays it as it sounds on the album. No worries, Sting's awesome and I love the Police. It's a tough line to play and sing simultaneously...

My favorite bass tune aside from "Ramble on" by Zep. Nicely done dude.

Sting used a neck pickup with the toned rolled down with a Felt pick. So the tone he gets is going to blend in the song a little better and not be so "Honkey".

Sting...underrated bass player? Not by me he's not. Beds too big, Driven to tears, Walking on the moon...classic bass lines.

@rexspe he didnt play this line like on the record bcuz it was too fking hard, still he played stuff like driven to tears or hole in my life singing, sick stuff

just wondering wy you wouldnt play this with a plectrum...so much easier....ur right hand technique is way better than mine...but with this technique its very difficult to get it exactly right. id do this with a plectrum.

@sid77777 thanks for your comment. i guess i'm just not the type to take the easy route. i would hate to have a specific thought on the instrument or want to play a certain line and just not be able to. i would rather practice so when i have something to say i can say it any way possible (fingers, pick, bow)
although if i thought it sounded better with a pick, perhaps if it needed more bite i wouldn't hesitate to do so
