This work entitled "Lacrimoso" or "Lacrimosa" meaning: tears, crying, or weeping, is the first movement of the symphony "The Depressed Bassoon" and a beautiful portrait of passionate, heart-wrenching sadness. The composer tried to capture the true act of depression, hurt, and anguish in this work for orchestra. The selection uses avant garde techniques such as the use of pots, pans, and other metal items as chimes, bowing a vibraphone, and the brass given the presence of mysterious wind by blowing and chanting into their instruments without buzzing. There is no hope, comfort, or love in this work, just hopelessness despair. One should be warned though, to not be holding a bottle of pills while listening.
