I originally wasn't going to make a sample of this, but since it was brought up (and much of the advertising of this CBFD remake is based around its "enhanced" multiplayer), I thought it would be wise to show this in action. It's really quite cool, but since it's at its best on Xbox Live (which there are likely few players these days if it's even still supported), the experience is a little different, as system links are cumbersome enough and the game only supports two players on one console (at a lower framerate and smaller viewing area). Playing as the squirrels or the Tediz, you can choose six character classes each with their own statistics and special abilities such as what vehicles they can ride and what they can carry (Grunt, Sneeker, Demolisher, Long Ranger, Sky Jockey, and Thermophile) and you can play on eight well-crafted stages.

The game supported many characters rampaging about for its time (about fifteen or so) and with so many possibilities and team pairs, the expansion in the multiplayer overshadowed the actual main game for some people. Each character can get upgrades in their weapons and have special skills unique to each of them. For instance, a Sneeker can play dead, go incognito, and cloak themselves (Sneeker is my favorite character even though I'm better with a few other characters). Three stages take place during the "Old War" and five take place during the "Future War", and each stage has mission objectives which can make winning easier if you succeed. Depending on how you set the rules, you can just win by getting enough points. I like how each map has a little whimsical story and cutscenes for victory/defeat. The characters also say funny things during battle (as they should).

This video shows two things in the multiplayer mode (with settings that make for relatively short matches): A simple single player game with CPU dumbots, and a segment with my brother in two-player console multiplayer (under Co-op).

  • Wow, this looks a little bit different from the N64 Conker. =O

But it doesn't seem to have the other N64 Conker MP games. Like Dino Hunt, for example.

Or am I lying wrong there?

  • @Highretrogamelord89 No, you're right; it's no longer available.
