The Truth About Factory Farming

you people pointing fingers and criticizing are fools, if you think you can do it better and pamper the animals AND make enough profit to live and stay in business then get off your butt and do it. YOU ARE IN FOR A SURPRISE! Some people are cruel, to animals and other people, they need to be caught and punished. Your across the board criticism of the industry because of some individual abusers says a whole lot more about your morals and ethics than it does your target. Farming is Hard Work.

for those who are questioning the term "factory farm" that is exactly what the video's intent is. The beef industry is a segmented industry, meaning most cow's don't always live in the same place their entire life. On average, most start at a cow-calf farm then are either kept there until ready for slaughter, or sent to a feedlot to continue to be fed until they reach slaughter weight. Most all of these operations are run by families, just as you see in the video.

misssoffie i'm not sure if your questions are real or a joke. i'm not a cattle farmer but i do know that cows do eat hay, corn, straw, grass and other things that they want to eat. you think cattle farmers force feed the cows to eat corn? Farmers know what to feed the cows by studying what they normally eat when they roam. What kind of bedding are you looking for? Maybe Stearns and Foster brands? As long as the cows have a barn with enclosed cages and hay to laydown on that should be suitable.

@aliagainstyou This is NOT free range farming! Free range is on large ranches where the cattle graze on grass and are not confined in small pens. THIS is a feedlot where cattle are kept in smaller dirt pens and fed grain and hay all ground up together. I think it is hilarious how you can always tell who the city people are by their comments, cause they have NO fucking clue what the hell they are talking about!!!! Do I know what I am talking about? YES!! I raise and sell beef cattle. Do you?

@misssoffie Cattle are not just fed corn. They are fed straw, grass, and all different types of grain. Do you want her to get rooms at the motel 6 for the cows. They lived outside before animal husbandry and they are fine outside still. When the cows give birth and its cold outside they will be moved inside for the safety of the calf. It's in a ranchers best interest to take care of the animals and they do.

I think it's funny how you overweight under worked babies talk about farmers with your mouth full of food that these people produce for you. You could go to India where they don't eat cattle and pick up some bazaar disease from that "perfect" agriculture system there, or maybe a visit to sub-Saharan Africa and eat weed seeds and beetle larva off the ground. Not a single one of you produce anything without screwing with the "Natural" world you claim to love so much.

And she doesn't actually care about the cow's well being beyond how it would impact her earnings. She actually says that all she cares about is the end product. That is the only reason she "puts the cows before her family" is for profit. If she really wanted to feed the entire world, she wouldn't be participating in wasteful meat production. Livestock eat up 66% of crops grown in the US and produce much less food than they take in. This is the reverse of feeding America.

This video doesn't answer ANYTHING. It doesn't touch on any of the issues. It's pretty much saying that factory farming can't be bad because this woman has a family and graduated from Dartmouth. The only people that can be persuaded by these arguments are people who are already looking for some shred of evidence in favor of factory farms so that they won't feel guilty about eating meat. This video makes it seem as if you are supporting family owned businesses by buying meat. This is not true.

A step up from Factory Farming (light applause).. but this is the kind of B.S. people watch, and conveniently feel 'confident' about eating a McDonalds burger too.
3 questions:
1. Where is the bedding material and shelter for the cattle.
2. Why are they feeding corn when cows are not designed to eat it.
3. If these animals are so healthy they why is there a need for bio security?
I am sure she actually believes she is taking care of these animals but that is the sad part, she feeds feed they are not designed to eat, has no natural immunity in the animals and doesn't provide warm bedding to keep them clean and shelter to keep them protected from weather.
