So, this is how you tack a Marshallese sailing canoe. The canoes are an outrigger design. Because of that you always want the outrigger to be windward, or upwind. Good, but it means you have a problem when you want to go back. Solution: don't turn the boat around; turn the sail around. Easy to say, takes some experience to do (good teaching helps). Featured is myself (Andy Krauss), Davis (Marshallese sailor), and Rachel (volunteer teacher). You can guess who is who. So, here is how you tack a Marshallese sailing canoe:
