thought id comment again considering i liten to this song everyday i think its my uncles fav track as well and im sure its up there in my dads fav as well ktf
C'mon guys keep this in perspective, i came on hear to listen to this great Bobby Hutton track and my fellow soul brothers are slagging each other off. I think if we take the best from both and forget some of the more poppy stuff we can get along. I personally liked the raw 60's sounds of Wigan and the stompers, but its nice now i'm getting on in life to dance to the more laid back slower sounds that came out of the Mecca. Surely there is room for all? I do like this Bobby Hutton record.
@SuperRiker1 perhaps you lack the knowledge or the faith of Dr Whatson , but to slum to the depths of your abuse shows your own lack of faith - or perhaps you don't understand what Northern Soul was all about : in 1974 Northern Soul wasn't a preservation society ; same as it wasn't in 1969 at the Wheel . Maybe some people kept the faith - but maybe you didn't ?
@herrhngthorpe You are entitled to your opinion - however biased and ill-informed it obviously is. However, it is immensely gratifying to see you adopting my OWN turn of phrase in your latest comments! At least you're beginning to master English, so my efforts have not been entirely in vain... Now if you could only master a cogent argument, and learn to distinguish genuine SOUL music from shitty uptempo POP, your development might advance beyond amoeba level even.
@jam1966ful But, once again I maintain that hardly ANY 70s recordings would have been played ANYWHERE in the North, had not the Mecca broken the almost total reliance on rare 60s "discoveries", the quality of which was definitely in decline by late 1974. My point being that without this significant shift in playlists (and subsequent dancing styles), whatever SOUL scene existed may well have degenerated towards the uptempo pop crap we saw increasingly played at Wigan from 1975 onwards.
@drwhatson Because they were set within an entirely different range of tunes, which if the records have any cultural or musical references at all, would give different context perhaps giving a totally different experience. It also gives the tune a longer shelf life and brings it to a wider audience. What's up with that. Muppet.
Happy new year friend.
