  • Censorship really ticks me off, niles, to a point where I think I'll just flag this as junk. OK?

  • @Matthew1944 You are quite the liar. As I said, I don't see why I should sit by the computer 24/7 so I can immediately approve your comments. And now, all your comments seem to be complete lies and false attacks so maybe I should actually start censoring you.

  • The bible can never be the word of god. If it were, it would contain only UNIVERSAL values, valid from the beginning of time to the end and in all places + straithforward instructions how to lead a life pleasing to god. The bible does neither.

  • @Matthew1944 I just listed 5 independent traditions on the life of Jesus and you call that nothing? My oh my!

On Paul: (1) his writings are not based on paganism. He deals with the Jewish God, sees salvation in terms of ISRAEL, engages in the same debates that Jewish sources do (faith vs the law), etc. (2) Paul's writings do pre-date the gospels, but no scholar I know of believes that they supply the information for the gospels.

So almost everything you said was wrong... :|

  • @Matthew1944 I provided a quote from one. you even quoted that quote in your reply, and now you deny it? If lying is the best you can come up with...

  • @OnlineBibleMinistry For example, many scholars argue that myth has absolutely nothing to do with the NT "

    What scholars? None, right?

  • @OnlineBibleMinistry Why you would require extra-biblical evidence for this is not a legitimate question to genre. However, Jesus' life is multiply attested to in the Pauline epistles; Multiply attested to in the Gospels"

You have nothing, obm. Paul's writings, based on paganism, pre-date the gospels and most likely supply the information for them. You have absolutely nothing - and no outside sources.

  • @Matthew1944 Why would I need to do that? Myth is a genre that the gospels simply don't stand in. Why you would require extra-biblical evidence for this is not a legitimate question to genre. However, Jesus' life is multiply attested to in the Pauline epistles; Multiply attested to in the Gospels, including indeoendent atttestation in Q, M, L, and Mark; etc. We have multiple independent sources before we even go to outside sources.

  • @OnlineBibleMinistry - Myth is a term of at best doubtful relevance to the study of Jesus and the Gospels."

No problem. Show me some extra-biblical CONTEMPORARY to the time of Jesus, support for the life and activities of Jesus.

  • @OnlineBibleMinistry For example, many scholars argue that myth has absolutely nothing to do with the NT and there are quite a lot of stories in that!

Why not? Nothing was put to paper for generations after the event and with oral re-telling the story grew. What scholars agree?
