SOMALI

"Today, I will address the UN General Assembly. I will talk about Somalia. I visited this African nation suffering from severe shortage of food and water. We have erected a mobile hospital. Now, an hospital with a capacity of 200 beds will be opened. We have collected an aid of $300 million with the support of non-governmental organizations. We will also encourage our businessmen to invest in Somalia. We also call on businessmen and firms from the United States and the other countries to invest in that country," he said.

EU MEMBERSHIP

Asked whether Turkey still intended to become full member of the European Union, Prime Minister Erdogan said, "we have been working to join the European Union for 50 years. We are doing our best. I hope that the European Union will correct its mistake and does not give up Turkey for the sake of Greek Cypriot administration."

EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN

Replying to a question about Greek Cypriot administration's oil and gas exploration activities in the Mediterranean, Erdogan said, "as a guarantor country, Turkey will help Turkish Cypriots protect their rights. Under an agreement we have recently signed with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, we will send an exploration vessel to the region and naval ships will escort the vessel."

Prime Minister Erdogan is currently in New York to attend the 66th session of the United Nations.

ERDOGAN'S TOUR OF NORTHERN AFRICAN COUNTRIES

Replying to a question about his recent tour of Egypt, Tunisia and Libya, Prime Minister Erdogan expressed his pleasure with Egyptian, Tunisian and Libyan peoples' great interest in him.

"During the visits, we gave messages about rise of democracy against autocratic systems. We stressed that no administration can stand in the way of the might and will of the people. Those people do not want dictatorship any longer. They want to get rid of autocratic systems," he said.

"They asked questions about secularism. There is a definition of secularism in Turkey's Constitution dated 1982. According to it, individuals are not secular, but the state itself is secular. And the state has an equal distance to all religious groups. The state is the guarantee for those groups. I explained it to Egyptian, Tunisian and Libyan peoples. The United States has a different style of secularism and the Western world has its own understanding. There is not any opposition or enmity in our secularism against any religious beliefs. People in the Middle East, especially in Egypt, think that secularism is an anti-religious movement. I told them that it was not correct," he added.

"No negative sentiments against people of Israel, Erdogan tells Charlie Rose Show"

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said Turkey had no enmity with the people of Israel amid heightened tensions with the Jewish state.

"We have no negative feelings about the Israeli people. Our attitude in this issue is against the Israeli administration. And Israeli administration, not the Israeli people, is solely responsible for the current state of affairs. And I believe that the Israeli people are not happy with their current leadership," Erdogan told Charlie Rose in a televised interview on PBS channel.

Relations between Turkey and its former ally Israel hit a historic low after a UN investigation panel on the Mavi Marmara incident released its findings which failed to ask Israeli government for a formal apology for the killing of Turkish nationals aboard a Gaza-bound aid ship.

On May 31, 2010, Israeli commandos raided on high seas the Mavi Marmara, the largest of a six-ship Free Gaza flotilla, killing nine Turkish nationals.

Turkey demanded Israel to make a formal apology, pay redress to the families of the victims and halt its siege on Gaza.

"This attack is a violation of the international law and it cost Israel a valuable friend. Israel has to apologize, pay compensation and end its unlawful siege on Gaza. Otherwise, normalization of the relations is not even a remote possibility," Erdogan said.

The Turkish premier said international community should build up pressure on Israel in order to force it to recognize Palestine as a sovereign state.

"This is what the UN General Assembly Resolution 181 calls for. There has to be two states. We need to take that step right away," Erdogan said.

Erdogan said he had no intention to win more popularity in confronting the Jewish state, adding that his attitude was against injustice and oppression.

"Not only Gaza, but entire Palestine is an open prison. You cannot bring in tomatoes without permission from Israel. This is dimensions of the Israeli siege," Erdogan said.

  • @MunCful

Murder is murder, but God loves the ones whom repent for their mistakes. Not the case of the turkeys whom killed over 3 million people in the 2th century. Don't point fingers at other countries until you have admitted your own mistakes.

Erdogan can lick Israeli boots until his tongue falls.
