..TAB for Black Swan now available...Jake's songs were so lyrically brilliant but let's not forget how lovely the tunes were and how fine Jake's guitar playing was. Here's a solo arrangement medley of: The Black Swan, Sister Josephine, Isobel Makes Love Upon National Monuments (surely the best song title ever) and Lah-di-dah.

  • This is brilliant. I watched a documentary on Jake many years ago and they said that other musicians (trained musicians I guess) would watch him play the guitar in awe because they had never seen or heard many of the chords that he played.

  • @danbs07 Hi Dan ... I think I saw that doc, and yes guitarists were queueing up to comment on his influential guitar style, and rightly so. I was in my young teens when he used to be on That's Life of a Sunday night, and I'd always be spellbound by his playing.

  • Songs?

    I think...

Salvation Army Girl? Sister J? Leopold Allcock? Lah de dah?

People forget that JT was a phenomenal guitarist.

  • @chap666ish Thanks for watching and commenting - I don't get too many views on this vid so I'm chuffed when I get a comment from another Jake fan. The four here are The Black Swan, Sister J, Isobel Makes Love Upon National Monuments and La-Di-Dah. He really was a fine player, self taught but he had all the chops and a great ear for harmony. Must definitely do another one of these medleys...

  • @ironmonger100 If you do another medley can I put in a plea for Go Little Swale? Judging by the way you play I take it you've not just picked up the guitar recently then. Do you play for a living?

  • @chap666ish Hi, I teach mainly, but I do gig fairly extensively, main gig is in a Country Band of all things, but some solo engagements too ... Will have a listen to go Little Swale and see if I think it'll work ...

  • @tobydarling Thanks so much, appreciate that very much. That was what I was trying to achieve - to show that Jake most certainly knew his onions when it came to composing music as well as lyrics.

  • great guitar playing and you really bring out how beautiful Jake's chord structures are, irrespective of his lyrical brilliance. Thanks for posting.

  • @ironmonger100 I whole heartedly agree with you on that its the lyrics that make the song, as i say im trying to learn it and i found Sister Josephine far easyer after watching you play it =D

  • @pedipanda Hi Nathan, really appreciate the comment, thanks - and it's great to hear from a Jake fan. To be honest, The Brigadier - in my humble opinion - hasn't got an interesting enough melody to work as an instrumental. The songs charm is those lyrics and the way Jake delivers them. But I'll try and do another Jake medley over the summer. Cheers.
