@26highstreet Yea people in Blighty get all nostalgic about AM.. they remember it because it was illegal and lots of people were on, they felt like they were part of a secret club.. Yes AM is more prone in electrical interference than fm... AM is terrible for noise, if legalised in the Uk, it would not be used after a few weeks and that would be the end of this mode

@kevinturvy True, the 29 looked good but that's where it ended, people payed good prices because they look like an ancient cobra 148... where is the logic in that, guess there is no accounting for taste.
Imagine if we had AM In the uk, cb would have died years ago, the chronic interference you get on AM is terrible.. P.L.T on am is as bad as it is on ssb, constant bleeping..Just got rid of all my gear due to interference and knowing they will be worth peanuts in 12 months time.. CB is dead

The cobra Uk25ltd is a better radio inside, it has no Inbuilt S.W.R , but there are never very accurate anyway and are the control is often converted to a variable rf output power controller.
Also the nightwatch part often fails.
I opted for a uk25ltd and that was easy to convert or should i say modify to run from 25.615mhz-30.105mhz Am/Fm.
Infact they are already suppose to be made this way in the first place, hence the 5 position tone switch:) and a triple pole dimmer:) No retuning required

yep i had the same one about a year ago.

i had one of these, easy ish convert to 600 channels! am and fm, rx and tx! 25-30 mhz if i remember, tone switch becomes a "band" switch, as does the delta tune, ie, 3 bands times 5! uk/eu switch becomes AM/FM,,,, i also modified to "scan" the channels, as this is a modern"processor controlled rig" i got a full band sheet somwhere, also a bad "click" when de keying,i found fitting a non polarised electrolytic cap in the audio stage helped to cure this,
Dan (26dw25) aka "marconi"

Yes we have 80 channels but in FM only. AM and SSB not as yet allowed in the UK although widely permitted in other European Union countries. We're still hopeful of a change in the rules soon. Cheers, Jon 'Rigsearch'
