the guitar work on this is just superb. It's so funny how he's so sloppy on electric (but really soulful) and then on acoustic he's just beast!!!!! Love you Neil!!!!

No putting Elliot Smith down, truly. & I'm sure Elliot was a Dylan fan & Neil Young fan. For me it goes Dylan then Young, Neil created those new melodies like the Blue/Black melody he played over and over. Then you have Dylan who had the Midwest Minnesota accent and could change voices at the drop of the hat. Neil with the, forget where he's from, Manitoba or something, that Canadian accent that sounds beautiful when sung with passion. There's somethin' about it that was made for telling stories

@bradleyhartzler No need to put down Elliott Smith. He's no Neil Young, that's true, but he's still a great songwriter.

@bradleyhartzler Elliott did play harmonica, and two songs off the top of my head that have harmonica are Alphabet Town and No Name #2. Two of my favorite Elliott songs. Do yourself a favor and check them out.

I see a lot of people compare Niel to Dylan..love them both but I would give Niel a little advantage, this song and Painter are like written for me..than you Niel..In my opinion the most underestimated performer, at least here in Croatia. /=

Elliot Smith wasn't around long enough to innovate Rock-n-roll like Neil Young did. For those who saw him in concert, they came away thrilled. Neil Young's not only worships some performers (Dylan ie Last Waltz) he also weeds out poor performers & praises the up and coming (Arcade Fire) - and he loved Nirvana. And if I'm not mistaken, Elliot Smith never played the harmonica, one of the most sublime sounding instruments.

Tell me why, tell me why
Is it hard to make arrangements with yourself,
When your old enough to repay
but young enough to sell?
Tell me lies later, come and see me
I'll be around for a while
I am lonely but you can free me
All in the way that you smile

After the Gold Rush is a great album...But if you are talking about best solo Neil albums, Harvest is his best. Harvest blows my mind every time i hear it. Front to back masterpiece.
@billboardnumber1 Quite a funny nickname you have. Billboard number one should mean Beyonce or some similar insubstancial stuff. Yet, you upload such great songs as this one.

@BilisNegra The nick actually started from posting all number one hit montage to top 100 hits like this one. billboard used to rank great songs in the 60's and 70's. with the evolution of songs, it had come down to unlistenable songs in this day and age.
