What you're looking at is a vintage Technics stereo system from 1977. The tuner and amplifier were available in three versions -- one with wooden furniture side panels and the "Technics by Panasonic"-logo (mainly sold in the U.S.), one without side panels but furniture housing, and the one here without side panels and black painted housing.

Included are (top to bottom):
• SL-1900 turntable (with EPC-270C-II cartridge)
• ST-7300 tuner
• SU-7300 amplifier (2*48W@4 ohm; 4-16 ohms impedance)
• RS-615US cassette decks
• SB-4500 speakers (92.5 db/W (1m); 75W maximum load)

I can tell you that the amplifier has a very conservatively rated output power. In nature, this stereo could cause walls to shake. More important, however, is that it also sounds really beautiful and is built like a tank.

I'm sorry if the music be a bit silent -- due to the heavy volume control the microphone does distortion would have been too high.

  • I just hope you don't turn it up too loud - SU amps run hot, it'll cook unless you stack it on top! Turntables are fine as they have sufficient clearance

  • @2TUFSS You cannot generalise this as every amp is built differently. The SU-7300 is a class AB amp which doesn't run too hot, neither does the SU-7700 which I have now. I have set the idling current in the latter one and pushed it very hard on test resistors, and it survives it pretty well. This thing has a hell of a heatsink and is built like a tank.

Still, you are right of course.

At the moment the amp is sitting in a wooden cabinet with a sufficient amount of clearance above it.

  • THAT is a beautiful system! I have SU-7700K right now (back panel, more powerful than 7300) i cannot hunt ST-7300K tuner anywhere... I regulary check USA, German and british ebay, bet haven't found one yet. :(

  • @Laurentinio1 Rather often, people who have the amp and tuner sell the components separately. In the end, they get the amp sold for quite some money but keep sitting on the tuner since nobody wanted it. In the end, they have to sell that beauty for just one dollar or so. It's not always easy to get your hands on vintage equipment – I suggest waiting until a tuner pops up. Luckily, the ST-7300 is one of the pre-80's Technics device that pops up the most on eBay. Good luck for your findings!

  • It baffles me why people constantly update equipment. Quality gear is timeless & you can get vinyl albums & cassettes for peanuts on Ebay. People are so brainwashed into thinking they need the latest equipment when the older stuff is usually better made.

  • modern consumer grade electronics don't even compare

  • Technics (Matsushita) made some really awesome gear back in the 70s and 80s. This equipment is still top quality and anyone who invests in it is making a sound decision (excuse the pun).

All of my home stereo system is gear from the 80s and everyone wants to buy it from me. Sorry but it's not for sale. It's taken me a long time to find it all and it's near impossible to replace. The sound quality beats any of the modern junk on sale today.

  • National/Panasonic/Technics used to make such quality stuff back in the 70s/early 80s.

  • @MacPhantom I'm not. I own an SU-7700 - you're right about the heat sink and build quality, but that heat needs to go somewhere, because they produce a fair bit of it. Mine's in good health (aside from a blown fuse after I made a hiccup last night), and it runs warm most of the time.

  • Where dreams come alive,,,, Looks beautiful.... Oh the good old days. I have something like that but mine are all Scott.

  • beautiful engineering in pristine condition.
