Note the uppercut from the outside @ 1:06. Jack Johnson would have been proud. The rest of the time he ate right cross for trying that. Stribling just not big enough to hang at the top with heavyweights
A fellow by the name of Cavanaugh recently wrote a terrific biography of Tunney. With biographies of guys like Tiger Flowers (also a Georgian, I believe) and Bummy Davis, I would think someone must be looking at Stribling. There seems to be a great interest in boxing history.
If he had moved up to heavyweight more successfully, like Tunney, Charles, or Conn, there might be more interest. Still, it would be nice if someone could try to convince a good writer like Harry Crews, a macho guy born in Georgia, to tackle the project. If he were still alive, I'll bet Lewis Grizzard would do a great job with it.
It is sad that he has been forgotten. I number of years ago a biography of him was published. It is called, "King of the Canebrakes". With so many boxing books being published now I would think someone would do a more extensive one on Stribling.
Yes, and it is sad that he died tragically in a motorcycle crash at age 28. At almost as sad that he has been practically forgotten, even in his native state of Georgia.
stribling had 290 fights winning 256 losing 16 and drawing 15 with 3 no contests and was only ever stopped once and that was in this fight vs schmeling

Yes, though this film is clearly speeded up--1931 was well withing the era of motorized movie cameras.

Remember that Max was a sport in and out of the ring; we have yet to learn about Michael's character in retirement.

Be careful saying that, what about the greatest racing driver of all time, Michael Schumacher.
