DY Patil University to honour Gavaskar with Doctorate

Twenty-three years after the Andhra Univeristy honoured him (in 1986) with an honorary doctorate degree, Gavaskar is getting a similar honour in his own Maharashtra state. And that too not from the official Bombay University he passed out from and led to the varsity cricket title but D Y Patil University, a deemed university which has come on the world's cricket map because of the IPL matches and maiden final being held there in 2008. On February 4, Gavaskar will be bestowed the honour at the university's annual convocation with luminaries in attendance like the Governor of Maharashtra S C Jamir and the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Mr Navinchandra Ramgoolam.
