The Brass Institute Presents:
The James Stamp Basic Warm-up for French Horn - Buzz Along.

Disclaimer - I recorded this using my 3yr old sony digital camera. I had to shrink the video size a little to fit youtube's rules. The audio quality has suffered. I apologize.

A note from the performer:
I thought this video might help out those students who are having some trouble with buzzing this. You always seem to do better when I play it with you. Now you can have me at home.

  • I studied with James Stamp for four years in the mid 60's. He would have me hold the trumpet mouthpiece with just thumb and index finger to prevent too much pressure. Sometimes he'd put a toothpick inbetween my index and second finger to keep me from clamping down with what he called the "death grip" At the lessons he would always be sitting at the baby grand piano guiding me through the notes. Play along with your right hand on the piano to prevent the pitch from sliding around.

  • Great comments!!!

  • @jtpage552 have any other useful advice? :)

  • Did doing these exercises help your overall tone and efficiency on the horn. by this i mean "first attacks" and just an over all tone production?

  • Thanks for this! It was great watching someone go through the whole routine.
