It's a strategic game, so if you're looking for a game where you bash someone over the head by clicking the mouse as quickly as possible, you probably should try a different game. It's not for everyone!

Of course!
This is shown around 2:20. Parries are automatic for normal attacks -- you just need to be holding the right card. It's good defense to always hold a parry card when you move within range.
For Advance-Lunge attacks, parries are optional. You can also retreat to dodge the attack (4:50)
