simple: kindom hearts is actually a joint project between the square cinx (the makers of final fantasy) and disney. this combination of american and japaneese cultres was such a hit, they made a second game.

Thinking back on Malfecients big plan to turn all the baddies into Heartless, why didn't she just do that the first time around, when they all worked together? Lol. Of course then everything would be turned around, but, hey, something to wonder about ya know?
