The 2010 Chile earthquake that registered 8.8 on the Richter scale struck on early Saturday morning, February 27, 2010. The quake lasted 90 seconds. The epicenter of the quake was 65 miles/104.5 km. southwest of Concepcion, Chile's second largest city and the depth was 22 miles/35.4 km. deep. The quake struck at 3:34am. This is a 3 minute and 15 second video clip of the earthquake on the tenth floor of an apartment building in Santiago, Chile's capital and largest city, 200 miles/321.9 km. northeast of the epicenter but still destructive. The power goes out at 1:02 and there is almost total darkness until 2:58. There were 524 deaths, 30 unaccounted for, 200,000 homeless and $30B in damages. The quake also caused a tsunami that led to a tsunami warning in Hawaii, but no tsunami materialized there.
Wow! I can't believe an 8.8 earthquake an kill a few people. That's impressive. It looked like anything beside items barely get destroyed.

"an apartment on the tenth floor of a building" ops, that was really scary, my worst fear would be a deck-of-cards collapse.
