@mikestrat56 Clapton was at his peak during this period. There's stuff on the Fillmore record where he plays a style I'd never heard him do before or since, . . can't remember exact song, maybe it was Evil, but he did some wah wah thing I'd never heard him do elsewhere. Clapton experts will probably correct me on that, but it seemed like a real departure.

@Exilemainstreet Agreed. However, during the Cream days he also seemed to have a different style - compare those long improvisations with his time with D&TD. There were glimpses in his 1970s live recordings (when George Terry wasn't taking the lead!), but his 1980s pop & 1990s blues playing wasn't quite as smoking as this time. But don't forget this was in his youth in bands that pushed him harder

Every note Eric plays on this song absolutely sings. Melodic, musical and totally improvised. Virtual perfection. I have listened to it a thousand times in the last 35 years and I never get tired of it. Ever.
