Ford is rolling out its 2010 Transit Connect at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show. The compact commercial van has been part of its European lineup and is slated for a summer rollout in the United States, priced at $21,475, including destination.

Details include an upgraded 2.0-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine that delivers an estimated 136 horsepower at 6,300 rpm and 128 pound-feet of torque at 4,750 rpm, mated to a four-speed automatic overdrive transaxle. Although official EPA numbers are not yet in, Ford said the Transit Connect is expected to return 20 mpg in city driving and 24 mpg on the highway.

Ford describes the Transit Connect as a workhorse that "drives like a car, works like a van and is engineered to be as tough as a truck." The interior was not completely overhauled compared to the previous European model, but the Transit Connect gets an updated grille and cabin.

Standard features include air-conditioning, an AM/FM stereo with two speakers and a standard console with twin storage bins for such items as receipts, invoices and coins.

The Transit Connect targets the Chevrolet HHR Panel as one of its chief competitors.

  • The Sprinter is a Mercedes. It was sold as the Mercedes Benz Sprinter since 1995. Then in , during the Daimler Chrysler conglomeration, Daimler rebadged the Sprinter and sold it under the Freightliner and Dodge nameplates in 2001 and 2003, respectively.

  • @TheLowey08 Well good for you Skinhead.

  • @TheLowey08 I like the mazda speed3 but I hope it comes in an automatic.

  • @wiccanmoonman I understand where you are coming from and I respect that ( I actually have a Ford and it is fabulous / very reliable ) but I also like other makes , including Japanese and some German vehicles . I often think that VW s history goes right back to Hitler himself ( the badge on modern VWs is still the same ) , but some of them are very nice very good / well made vehicles and I cant help like them despite their history , etc.

  • @TheLowey08 So is Ford but I will never forgive the crouts for what they did to the Jews during 1939-1945. I just don't buy crouts crappy products.

  • @wiccanmoonman Wouldnt you , if they were really good and super-reliable ?

  • I don't buy cars from crouts!!

  • @bigwoolleypenguin sorry I don't buy crout mobiles.

  • Never mind the Transit connect in the US , do you guys in the US get the Mercedes Vito van? We have it here in UK ( and Europe ). It is fantastic small van ( a llittle bigger than Transit Connect )-if you dont know it. The Sprinter has really taken off in the US , I think the Mercedes Vito would sell like crazy over there ( without Dodge badging though please ). If you dont know / havent seen these vans check out Mercedes Vito.

  • Ford can charge whatever they want for this van in NA, as it has no direct competition, However in Europe these types of vans are highly popular and several car-makers carry these. If the sticker price was lower, this would/could be Ford's cash cow.

  • it's worse car i been see in my live ,what happen any one die
