The West Barray is fed by the Tonle Sap River; a small dam has enlarged the rice-growing potential of the area with water carried through a network of irrigation canal. The West Barray is also used for fish breeding. People can go for a swim along southern section.
King Jayavarman V initiated the construction of the West Barray in the 10th century; It's development had continuous support by succeeding kings, such as King Suryavarman I who spent considerable time and efforts in its construction,' H.E. The west baray is huge!!! It proabaly took them narly 200 years to complete it!
