@dkurgano I just tried to join the club. I mean chaspo's remark was so weird, your answer so sharp, I found it an opportunity to have fun. see, I admire ferras. heard him almost 40 years ago in a peroformance of Beethoven's concerto in Oslo. he was godly. his suicide is a tragedy. the paganini performance here is stunning. hope you forgive my acidic impulsive sarcastic comment

wonderful! thanks for posting!

Wow...He really brings out the beauty in Paganini! You totally forget that this is considered a virtuoso piece. Is Barbizet playing the accompaniment? He also adds to the performance.

@chaspoll1 its ferras for sure.... just listen to that vibrato lol
I doubt this is Ferras. What evidence is there that it is him? Playing is scrappy at best. The pianist / piano sound (an upright?) is weak and the recording is definitiely not from 1954. Fake I think

After recently discovering Gitlis Paganini I am now totally taken by this raw Performance with the nerves ltotally exposed . Phantastic. truly diabolical in the sense of being posessed. I recommend listening to Hirshhorns amazing performance as well. it is amazing how Paganinis pieces undoubtedly tailormade for his own abilities give so diverse strong personalities a means to express themselves in the process inspiring us mortals to not sell our own individuality to short.

yes gitlis and ferras really bring a raw expression to this piece! but for me ferras is even more special. he plays in such a vocal manner, this kind of "enescu" expressivity, but he really makes it his. unmistakable. hirschhorn is also fantastic, a bit more russian :) my favorite recording of his from these queen elisabeth years, though, is the saintsaens-ysaye waltz in the from of a caprice.
