1949? Seriously?

The ABC was held in the Detroit Coliseum, Brunswick built probably 40 alleys on site, just for the 5 or 6 month tournament. Quality lanes, because they all had to pass the strict ABC lane requirements. The toughest part of the bowling in the ABC tourneys was controlling your own mind. Clutch time every ball. Each game was on the next pair of lanes to the left. After the tournament was over, the lanes were dismantled and sold for installation in a different bowling facility.

Thanks for posting, this was really cool. I cant help but notice how bad these guys are. It doesnt look like many broke 100. I think our junior bowlers today would beat these guys easily, LOL.

@andersonvillas1277 It appears to be a temporary lanes set up at the Michigan State Fairgrounds Colosseum, Woodward near 8 Mile Road.

This occurred the year I was born. Sept. 28th, 1949. I have always loved bowling and bowling was good to me. I paid my way through a few years of college winning sweepers and pot games in Houston, TX with some of the country's best bowlers. I was fifteen years old and won the Houston City Junior Championship when I was 12 with a ball Jack Biondolillo had drilled for me the week before the tourney. The fingerhole edges were not at all beveled.
