I was messing around before class waiting for people to show up and decided I should film myself.
The Embrace Moon at Chest Drill is something I came up with myself when I first started learning Baguazhang. I put it together when I was teaching myself how to break down the movements of the Jiang Rong Qiao form. Playing around like this is something I have done extensively to work out the energy/feeling/structure of my internal arts.
I really like this drill because it involves sinking through the heels and whole body movement in a way that helps find the connection between the upper and lower halves of the body. Working on these movements has helped me correct having my shoulders too open and not being able to transfer my weight through my heels properly. As well the spiraling of the arm and body simultaneously while changing direction is always fun to play around with. Not sure how clearly you can see through my big black shirt but oh well.
Something simple (all relative of course) like the Palm Change vid I posted earlier. What I love about playing around with stuff like this is the depth of the learning experience that is just waiting to be found. :) I'll be walking down the office hall and realize something about what I was working on during my morning practice and be trying to figure it out arm reaching while I press start on the photocopier lol.
Drills like this are a part of my daily routine, too, and I also get insight on techniques at some of the weirdest moments. It's amazing the dept of learning that takes place in these simple exercises.
