Obama's convoy through Darwin:

The presidential retinue includes an estimated 500 people, including 200 Secret Service agents, the White House chef, and a military officer carrying America's nuclear codes.

Mr Obama flies everywhere on Air Force One, which has a gym, an operating theatre and radiation shielding in case of a nuclear blast.

The rest of his entourage travels on Air Force Two.

Mr Obama's personal chopper is Marine One, which is fitted with flares to confuse heat-seeking missiles.

His motor cavalcade of about 45 vehicles, along with Marine One and decoys, will be transported in a US Air Force C-17.

In the past, the cavalcade has also included two buses for journalists and TV crews, a radar-jamming vehicle and a SWAT team van.



Mr Obama also travels with a team of doctors in the event of a medical emergency.

In Ireland, when visiting his ancestral home, it was reported that Mr Obama had to get a pint from a secure keg of Guinness specially transported from the United States.

During his stay at Buckingham Palace, aides brought bomb-proof portable double glazing to cover the windows in his guest suite.

Mr Obama reportedly travelled with four speech writers and 12 teleprompters during his London visit.



The president's limousine, nicknamed the Beast, is a custom-made Cadillac from General Motors.

It is fitted with military-grade armour at least 100 millimetres thick, pump-action shotguns, and puncture-proof tyres.

The Beast's doors are estimated to weigh as much as a Boeing-757 cabin door.

The driver's window opens only three inches, and the the fuel tank is explosion resistant and leak proof.

The car is sealed against biochemical attacks and has its own oxygen supply.

It houses a blood bank of Mr Obama's blood type which can be used to give him a transfusion in the event of an injury.

It has the ability to deploy tear gas canisters and smoke grenades fired remotely by the car which trails the Beast.
